From the Middle East to Scandinavia
In Northern Germany, marzipan is usually said to originate from Lübeck - a beautiful city in Schleswig-Holstein known for its marzipan production. However, historians now suggest that the sweet treat has its roots in the Middle East and came to Europe via Spain during the Middle Ages. Today, marzipan is a staple in Danish pastry shops: You're probably familiar with cakes such as mazarint tart, napoleon hats, potato cakes and othello cake. Maybe you buy them at the local bakery - or maybe you have a family recipe and bake them yourself.
You can also add marzipan to classic baked goods and take cinnamon rolls, pretzels and scones to new heights.
Time for summer baking - marzipan all year round
Christmas doesn't have a monopoly on marzipan. Goose breast - the cake that combines cream and jam with marzipan - tastes great with afternoon tea in the garden.
For warm summer evenings, we suggest making marzipan sno bread over a campfire: Stir 25 g yeast into 2.5 dl water, add 0.25 dl liquid margarine, 75 g grated marzipan and 175 g flour. Add another 175 g of flour to the dough and knead well. Leave the dough to rise for 1 hour and then divide it into 6-8 pieces, which can now be used to make twist bread over a campfire. Serve with jam if you like.
If, on the other hand, you need to cool down while enjoying the sunshine, a cold dessert is just the thing. For example, Dooley's cream liqueur tastes great with marzipan and ice cream!
